Gilbert Vale on Thomas Paine

"Other men have followed events; Paine actually created them." Gilbert Vale, The Life of Thomas Paine  (New York: published by the author, 1839), p. 34.

  1. What a great way of putting it! - Harvey J. Kaye

  2. Indeed, Harvey. I've been re-reading Vale's wonderful 1839 bio of Paine for about the sixth or seventh time and typically enough, I'm seeing new things that I never noticed before. Vale's admiration of Jefferson is also pronounced.

Keep it courteous and respectful, please.
